Implants are used where a tooth is missing to replace the root or support part of a crown or bridge. When a tooth has infection causing pain or discomfort and needs removal, an implant is typically indicated. Some teeth can be treated by means of a root canal treatment in cases where the bone and tooth material quality are still good enough.

Implants are placed with local anesthetic in minor cases where a patient is in need of one or more implants. There is typically no need for hospitalisation. Proper after care and medication is given to help achieve a successful treatment result.

At Sandton Dental Studio we typically recommend an integration period of 3 to 6 months before commencing with the next stage of the treatment, which is taking an impression for a crown or bridge to go on top of the integrated implant.

This treatment results in a natural looking tooth which requires only periodic maintenance and good oral hygiene habits.
